Life with a Future

Jeremiah 29:11  "For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you", is the utterance of Jehovah, "Thoughts of peace and not calamity, to give you a future and a hope."

If our main reason for serving Jehovah is our love for him, we should look eagerly to the rewards he promises through the Bible and the words of his son, Jesus.. In fact, Jehovah expects us to do look forward to a future of peace and a hope. The book of Hebrews says: “Without faith it is impossible to please him well, for he that approaches God must believe that he is and that he becomes the rewarder of those earnestly seeking him.” Jehovah wants us to see him as the rewarder because when we do, we show that we know our heavenly Father well. He is generous and he loves his children. Think how unhappy and easily discouraged we would be if we did not have “a future and a hope.”

True Freedom

John 8:32 "And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free."

“Where the spirit of Jehovah is, there is freedom.” Holy spirit helps set us free.  It helps us to have the qualities of love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Jehovah wants us to keep showing these qualities more and more and to show them forever. People who are controlled by the world’s spirit and who satisfy all their selfish desires may think that they are free. But they do not know that they are actually slaves to their willfull wrong behaviors. That is why governments must make a lot of laws to keep these people’s desires and behavior under control. Like insects that crawl into a bowl of honey to satisfy their appetite and then get trapped, these people follow their wrong desires and become slaves of sin. So studying and applying Bible truth and guidance from Holy Spirit is what sets us free.

Finding Lasting Success

Ecclesiastes 12:13  "For the conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is fear the true God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole obligation of man."

Although knowing what personal success was, Solomon knew Jehovah, as the Creator of all things including mankind, deserves that we keep his commandments which are clearly outlined in the Bible. Living a life of faithfulness is not easy but we know that it brings Jehovah’s blessing and approval, and that is what makes someone truly successful.  We benefit now when we are faithful, and we can expect blessings in the future. We have every reason to place our hope in God, who provides all things for our enjoyment. In a world that pursues success at any cost, let each of us concentrate our personal efforts to ...fear the true God and keep His commandments..."

Guidance Through Life

Psalm 143:10 "Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Your spirit is good. May it lead me on level ground."

Holy spirit operates continually in a Christian's life once we have placed faith in Jehovah and in his son's sacrifice for us. It is not only on special occasions or under testing  circumstances. that holy spirit can be active. God’s Word speaks of Christians’ “walking by spirit,” “being led by spirit,” and “living by spirit.” This indicates that holy spirit can continually exercise an influence in our lives. On a daily basis, we should ask Jehovah in prayer to guide our thinking, speech, and actions though guidance of Jehovah's spirit. Our part is to learn to allow the spirit to operate freely in our lives. It important that we be led by holy spirit because another force seeks to dominate us, what the Scriptures refer to as “the flesh,”  the sinful inclinations naturally within each of us. That is why life can feel like such a struggle in our daily lives.

Observe God's Commands

1 John 5:3  "This is what the love of God means that we observe his commandments, yet his commandments are not burdensome."

Jehovah wants us to benefit from his love forever. Whether we will or not, however, is up to us. To remain in God’s love, action on our part is required. We need to respond to his love in active ways. Consider how each of us can show love for God.  The answer is found in the inspired words of the Bible. We need to examine carefully the words found in God's Word if we want to show God just how much we love him.

Wisdom Comes From Above

James 3:17  "But the wisdom from above is fist of all pure, then peaceable, reasonable, ready to obey,  full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, not hypocritical."

Jehovah is reasonable about what he expects of us. We want to imitate Jehovah but we should not try to set unreasonable expectations for ourselves. If we keep a balanced view of our works of faith and Jehovah’s undeserved kindness, we will maintain our joy.

A Worhy Pattern

John 13:15  "For I set the pattern for you, that just as I did to you, you should also do."

When Jesus urged his disciples to follow the pattern he set, he was demonstrating the importance of humility.  He demonstrated his own humility by washing the feet of his apostles.  He told his apostles to follow the pattern he set.  Think of it. Jesus, the second-highest person in the universe, consented to become lower than the angels, to be born a helpless baby, to grow up raised by imperfect parents, and die like a despised criminal.
